Our Primary School Sports funding enables us to continue and extend our provision through employing additional sports coaches, entering into more competitive sports competitions, providing swimming lessons and training our staff to deliver high quality PE and Games sessions.
Primary School Sports Funding

Information about government funding for sport in primary schools can be found here.
The government provides money for sports provision in all state primary schools. This funding is jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport. Money goes straight to schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all children.
Purpose of the funding
Schools must spend the additional sports premium funding on making additional and substantial improvements to their PE and sport provision. These improvements are for the benefit of all pupils. The overarching aim is to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. Schools receive their PE and sports premium funding based on the number of children in years 1-6 as recorded at the January census.
How we plan to spend the Sports Premium funding in 2025-26 at Morningside
- To hire well qualified and experienced sports coaches to work staff to pupil’s skills development within a PE lesson using appropriate vocabulary and strategies.
- To review and develop the PE curriculum providing the PE lead with appropriate CPD to ensure that this is of a high quality.
- To provide increased opportunities for greater numbers of pupils to attend different sporting competitions inside and outside of school.
- To provide time for the PE lead to analyse pupil participation and attainment data in order to better target provision.
- To invest in high quality accessible equipment to support teaching and learning ensuring all lessons are well resourced for all children to participate.
- To provide high quality accessible equipment to be used for playtimes to ensure playtimes are well resourced for all children to participate in physical activities.
- To introduce new sports clubs to supplement the after school offer
- To provide vulnerable pupils with places in half term and summer sporting camps.
- To continue to train all adults and organise the outside areas to enable ALL pupils to be significantly more active including girls, pupils with SEND and children who identify as being “non-sporty”
- To enhance provision at our yearly sports week to include a range of new sports and activities for pupils to try out such as canoeing, fencing and Dragon Ball.
