Co-Headteachers

Congratulations to Jo Stonehouse and Rachel Smith on their appointment as Co-Headteachers. They will take over when I leave at the end of this term. The school is incredibly lucky to have both Jo and Rachel as Co-Headteachers to lead the school into the future.

There will be a meeting for families on Friday 29th November (This is a change of date to the one I originally shared in my email on Wednesday).

This is an opportunity for you to find out more about what their Co-Headship will look like at Morningside and for you to ask any questions. We will be running two sessions; 9.00am and 9.15am

PSHE – Anti Racism lessons

In PSHE during Autumn 2, we will be following a set of lessons based around tackling racism. The anti-racism lessons are based around the idea that children should be an ‘upstander’ not a ‘bystander’ to racism. Through discussing the issue of racism in depth each week, we are educating the children on this topic and ensuring each child feels safe and supported at school.

Anti-Bullying Week

We are excited to take part in Anti-Bullying Week 2024, running from Monday, 11 November to Friday, 15 November. This year’s theme is Choose Respect, and we’re looking forward to a week of activities that encourage empathy, unity, and kindness across our school community.

Here’s what’s happening:

Odd Sock Day Tuesday 12th November

Odd Socks Day is a national event all about celebrating what makes someone unique. On Tuesday, come to school wearing odd socks, as this is a fun way to highlight that we’re all different and that’s something to celebrate.

Children in Need

Next Friday, 15th November is Children in Need. We are asking children to come to school dressed in their pyjamas in exchange for a coin donation. All money raised will be donated to BBC Children in Need.

PTA news

A huge thank you to everyone who took part in Break the Rules Day and to all those who donated or bought cakes! Thanks to your enthusiasm and generosity, the PTA raised an impressive £527 through these events.

We’d also like to extend a special thank you to the parents who helped sell the cakes—we truly appreciate your support and dedication.

Keep an eye out for details about the PTA’s next event!

School Streets

School streets is in operation from 8.30am – 9.30am and 3.00 – 4.00pm weekdays, term time only. This means you should not be driving down Chatham Place during these times. This is to protect our children.

Play update

The children have really enjoyed playing in our newly updated mud kitchen area. It’s had new bark and is looking great thanks to the donations from families this week. Thank you to everyone who has donated something. We are always looking for donations for the mud kitchen of old pans, spoons, pots, broken appliances, anything which is not made from ceramic or glass for health and safety reasons. Next week we are asking for donations of toys. Remember to bring your bingo card to get a stamp for the prize draw. Your donations really do make a difference to children’s playtime experience.

Parents’ Evening

Important changes to the upcoming Parents’ Evening. This year, Parents’ Evening will begin earlier, starting at 2:00pm and finishing at 6:30pm.

What this means for you:
