Message from Jo and Rachel
This week, the children have been taking part in some activities for British Science Week. The theme this year is Change and Adapt. You can read more about some of these in the posts below. It has been lovely to see so many enthusiastic young scientists around the school.
As you may have heard in the media, children’s attendance at school has fallen nationally. This is the same at Morningside. We know that consistently high attendance rates (95% or above) for children help them not only with their learning but also with their friendships. We want to support and encourage all Morningside children to achieve this. All children with 100% attendance each week will be entered into a raffle to win one of a range of prizes (including games and Lego sets etc). This will be drawn during the following Friday’s celebration assembly. We are looking forward to awarding the first prizes next week.

Nursery Admissions September 2025
Do you have a child who will turn 3 before the 31st of August this year? If so, applications are now open for our school nursery for September 2025. We have full time and part time places available (15 or 30 hours). Please state your preference on the application form. Places will be allocated using Hackney’s nursery admissions criteria. The closing date for applications is 30th April 2025. Any applications received after this date will be allocated if spaces are available. Please look out for an email with the application form next week. You can also get a paper copy of the form from the office.
Online Safety – Social Media
This week, there have unfortunately been several incidents involving children using social media, on their smart phones, inappropriately outside school. These have been very upsetting for the children concerned. We would like to remind families of some key points about smart phone use for children.
- Check Age Limits – Most social media apps (e.g., TikTok, Instagram, Snapchat) have a minimum age of 13. Stick to age-appropriate platforms.
- Set Privacy Controls – Ensure accounts are private, location sharing is off, and only real-life friends can connect.
- Keep Phones Out of Bedrooms – Charge devices in a shared space overnight to promote healthy sleep and prevent late-night screen use.
- Talk & Monitor – Regularly look at and discuss their online activity, watch for signs of cyberbullying, and use parental controls if needed.
- Report & Block – Teach them how to block inappropriate content, report concerns, and seek help if they feel unsafe online.
