School Streets

We would like to remind you about the Hackney School Streets scheme, which is in place around Morningside Primary School. This initiative, introduced by Hackney Council, aims to create safer, cleaner, and healthier environments for our children as they arrive at and leave school.

During key drop-off and pick-up times, School Streets restrict traffic on roads directly surrounding the school. Only pedestrians and cyclists are allowed during these times, with exceptions for residents and blue badge holders. The goal is to reduce the number of cars outside the school gates, improving air quality, and reducing congestion, making the area safer for our children to walk or cycle.

Here’s why it’s important for parents and carers to avoid driving down the street during the allocated times:

We understand that some parents may have specific needs when it comes to driving, but we urge everyone to respect the restrictions and help make Morningside a safer place for all. Your cooperation is crucial to the success of this scheme and the well-being of our children.

School streets is in operation from 8.30am – 9.30am and 3.00 – 4.00pm

Bikers’ Breakfast

We are delighted to share the fantastic success of today’s Bikers’ Breakfast event! It was wonderful to see so many of our children cycling to school and enjoying a healthy breakfast together.

The turnout was amazing, showing a great commitment to active travel and healthier lifestyles. Events like this not only encourage physical activity but also help reduce traffic around the school and contribute to cleaner air in our community. All bikes have been checked and any repairs fixed.

A huge thank you to the Hackney cycle team who repaired all the bikes and ensured they are all safe and ready for the road. We hope this event has inspired more families to consider cycling to school regularly and to make the most of Hackney’s cycle-friendly streets.

Reading Champions

The Morningside Reading Champions attended the launch event for Hackney Reading Champions at the Town Hall. They had a fantastic time discussing and planning all the different ways they hope to promote a love of reading and inspire more children to read at Morningside Primary School. It was a brilliant opportunity to think about what initiatives they want to introduce and how they would like to support readers in and around the school. The children had many fantastic ideas. The launch was a great chance to meet other Reading Champions from across the borough and share book recommendations.

Play update

After half term we launch our next small parts bingo. We need your help with donations of the items on the bingo card each week please for the playground. Each child will come home with a bingo card next week. Bring your items in in the morning to receive a stamp on the gate or at the main office. Collect all 6 stamps to be entered into a prize draw to win a voucher.
